Produced by the SMF in association with the Office of International Programs at James Madison University, the International Weekend is an exploration of global musical traditions and their relation to composers working within the Classical repertoire. This year's theme is Brazil, spanning three centuries of Brazilian Chamber Music, Art Songs, Choral Works, Choro, Forró, and Jazz.

Classically Brazilian title
A cross-section of Brazilian music, including masterworks for voice, piano, and chamber ensembles. Selections from the popular Choro, which has been called the world's most sophisticated instrumental popular music; and Forró, the most popular dance music of northeastern Brazil.

The program will include works by Villa-Lobos, Villani-Cortes, Claudia Santoro, Francisco Mignone, Alberto Costa, Ernesto Nazareth, and selections from popular traditions.

Reflecting Brazil title
A program of traditional and contemporary Brazilian music and responses to that music by European and North American composers.

The program will include works by Guarnieri and Milhaud, and will conclude with the world premiere of a new work by Chuck Dotas, featuring Brazilian and North American performers in a piece joining Brazilian Music with American jazz.
